Gabriel Tupou is of Māori and Tongan descent and was raised in Wainuiomata, where he attended local schools. He comes from a large and diverse family.
Since he was a child, Gabriel has aspired to lead through serving people. He enjoys making a positive and impactful difference in the community.
Gabriel is also a vocalist and enjoys singing at civic and community events. He has an appreciation for the diversity of our city and serves on the Hutt City Multicultural Council and the Hutt Manaaki Trust (previously known as the Hutt Valley Disabled Resources Trust).
Gabriel’s career in the public service began in customer service and he went on to be a Legal Assistant for the Crown and a Parliamentary secretary. His other roles include serving as Deputy Chair of the Wainuiomata High School Board of Trustees and leading the Wainuiomata Resilience Network (WARN), which consists of Civil Defence Volunteers.
Gabriel was recognised for his service as a recipient of the Hutt Civic Honours Award and the Kiwibank Local Heroes Award 2017.
